THEA AUSTIN

Range and soulful expression best describe Thea Austin, whose is the current voice and original lead singer of SOULSEARCHER and the original vocalist of SNAP. Her emotionally powerful and potent contralto vocal delivery and whose creative songwriting talents are best known for the international multi-million selling hit “Rhythm Is A Dancer,” which scored a #1 hit on the Billboard Hot Dance Music Charts and remained on Billboards Hot 100 Singles Charts for 54 weeks, peaking at #3. The single written by Austin went on to become a universal dance anthem, also became a #1 MTV Video, Top 20 Song of the Year by CNN, and has been featured on over 75 music compilation CD’s. And in September 2000 VH1 featured the “100 All Time Greatest Dance Songs,” and Rhythm Is A Dancer came in at number #34!!! She also co-wrote several other international hits including “Color of Love,” “See the Light,” and “Believe In It,” all for SNAP.

After Michael Jackson witnessed Thea work the stage, it came as no surprise that he asked her to be his “opening act” for the “Dangerous Tour” and HBO Special, where Thea played to 70,000 plus fans nightly. Following extensive world concert touring, Thea left SNAP to pursue other musical adventures. She was then spotlighted on the albums “Cutoff Featuring Thea Austin” and “Cymarai featuring Thea Austin” which spawned several Top 20 European hits including “Don’t Stop,” “Move,” “Magic Touch” and “Let Go”. She also produced, wrote and performed on the songs “Live To tell” and “Turn it Up” by her friend Karel. In 1997 Thea had the pleasure of recording the Andy Gibb classic “I Just Want To Be your Everything,” and turned it into a dance club smash. Amazingly enough it was the very first remix project for a duo (Grammy award winner Chris Cox & Barry Harris) that has stormed the Billboard Charts for the last couple of years called “Thunderpuss.”

Thea has not stopped stirring up the music charts once again, with her huge international dance hit song “I Can’t Get Enough” under the name of SOULSEARCHER. The song had massive crossover appeal from dance clubs to radio as it slammed in at #8 on the UK National Pop Charts in late 1999 and topped the US Dance Charts as well. Her follow-up single “Do It To Me Again” which Thea co-wrote, went to #1 on the UK Club Charts and was a top 20 hit on the UK Pop Charts. The song was released here and proved to be a big hit here on the US Billboard Charts as well.

It should come as no surprise that Thea was back (April 2001) on the charts in a big way, (under the name of PUSAKA) with her massive “circuit” dance hit, “You’re The Worse Thing for Me” (I’m Addicted), which Thea wrote with her friends, Chris Cox and DJ Irene.

The song was tested at the 2000 Winter Music Conference in Miami (in March 2001) and the results have been thru the roof, so Tommy Boy Records is rushing the song out on May 8, 2001 as a single, featuring remixes by Chris Cox and DJ Irene, Richard F and PHD. In fact “Dance Music Authority” magazine has declared this song the “anthem of the summer”, and gave the track it’s highest rating, 5 stars. In fact the song became the the #1 Dance Song in America, in the June 30th, 2001 issue of Billboard Magazine. In late March of 2002 the song won the award for the “Best 12’/Underground” Song of the Year at the 2001 Winter Music Conference held in South Beach. Needless to say
“I’m Addicicted” seems to have taken on a life all it’s own!!!!!
When Thea is not singing, she is actively involved with charity work, which is why on Thursday, September 28, 2000 the “City of West Hollywood” proclaimed it “Thea Austin Day”, for all of her work in the fight against AIDS!!!

The highly anticaped follow-up to “I’m Addicted To You” (written by Thea and Chris Cox) and is called “First Class Freak”. This song will be part of the Thunderpuss album and be put out as a single on Tommy Boy Records in late summer.

Thea had several new songs featuring her vocals that were released. The first song is called “Funky Music” (written by Thea) was put out by the remixers called the Pound Boys, (who are highly established in their own right) and created a lot of buzz.

Another song Thea recorded was released on Peppermint Jam Records (Mousse T’s lable) and is called “Soul Power” written by Thea and produced by DJ/Producers Full Intention.

In May 2003 the legendary remixers “Ministry of Sound” released new mixes (on Data Records) and video for “Rhythm is a Dancer 2003” which features slammin vocals by Ms. Austin. Thea did a promotional tour in the UK in early May which included “Top of the Pops” and various other TV shows. These amazing new remixes should make it over to the US shortly after. The song was pre-released (to get the buzz going) to the CD Pool Charts (4/10/2003) and “Rhythm 2003” debuted at #3. On the Upfront Club Charts, (3/29/2003) “Rhythm 2003” debuted at #5 and went to #2.

As you can tell, with a track record like this, the highly underrated Thea Austin, has more than established that she is no stranger to the stage, or the spotlight, and never stops working!!!!
